Why it Works
Pearland Fit works because it follows the successful format of the USA Fit program, which has been refined and improved since 1989. The Runner's World Golden Shoe Award winning USA Fit programs have improved the health, fitness and wellness of thousands of people each year throughout the USA, Canada and around the world. Our Pearland Fit coaches are certified by USA Fit, and have successfully completed many marathons themselves. We coach from personal experience in completing the USA Fit program in Houston or other cities, and we're excited to share our experience with the community of Pearland, Friendswood and other surrounding cities.
The USA Fit Marathon training program was developed to teach runners and walkers how to train safely and effectively when preparing for a marathon or half marathon. The program is designed around the quality vs. quantity principle. In other words, less total miles run at harder paces is better than lots of long, slow training miles. Although there are many ways to train for a marathon, this method has proven very successful at providing adequate mileage for the beginning marathoner while minimizing overuse injury. This type of training is highly effective for the veteran marathoner as well -- it reduces the injury rate among this group by decreasing the pounding the body receives with overtraining and also improves racing paces dramatically.
USA Fit has refined their approach to marathon training this season, emphasizing teaching your muscles to run more efficiently at your predicted race pace (PRP). This will mean two changes to training of the past. First, the mileage is not as great, which will help in reducing stress injuries from higher mileage programs. Second, the pace we run during our Saturday runs will be faster. The more runs we get in at our PRP, the more efficient our bodies will become at sustaining that pace over the long distance required during a marathon.
