Walking Program

Welcome to the Walker's Corner. The purpose of this page is to help you understand the benefits of walking in an atmosphere that is encouraging and non-intimidating. Our walking program is comprised of experienced and inexperienced walkers that have one thing in common - to reach a walking goal and have fun while doing it. Only one tenth of the population has ever completed a marathon. Fewer than that can say they have WALKED a marathon. Within six short months, you can become one of the honored few to complete this awesome task. . If you are not quite sure about committing to a full marathon then training for a half marathon is a wonderful accomplishment. It is a great way to test the waters and still reap the rewards of the marathon.

Purple Group
All walkers are grouped together under the color PURPLE. It does not matter if you are experienced or inexperienced; if you are a walker, you are in the Purple Group.

Walking Program 2009 Season
Whether you are walking to improve your health, fitness, or to complete a half or full marathon, you will find that the Pearland Fit walking group will help you meet any of those goals. The walking group will also have a 3/1 (walk 3 minutes, run 1 minute) option for those walkers interested in adding a little jog to their walk. The goal of the 3/1 group is to increase speed without decreasing the walking pace. You do not have to be a race walker or runner to participate in a marathon, or half marathon. So come out and join the Pearland Fit walking group for training, fun, and friendship.

Seminars
We will have monthly seminars directed towards both runners AND walkers to help you make "good" choices during your marathon training.

Closing Comment
The common thread among all the participants in this program is having a positive experience in stepping out of our comfort zones and discovering the ability that we each have to perform beyond our expectations. The goal of walking a half or full marathon provides the motivation for many to take that step, and the friendship and camaraderie help us all though the challenging times. We look forward to spending the next six months with you as we each set goals that will change our lives.
